Selection & Awards

A program should be entered in one category only. The final decision of category placement will rest with the selection committee.

Only programs chosen as award nominees by the selection committee will be viewed by a distinguished international jury appointed by Festival organizers. Additional programs may be selected for out-of-competition recognition or screenings.

Programs chosen as nominees for consideration by the international jury will be announced in April 2005. Short clips of nominated programs (up to a maximum length of two minutes) may form part of the media announcement and are also an integral element in the Banff Rockie Awards presentation on June 15, 2005 during the Festival. The Festival reserves the right to use these clips to promote the competition and the Awards. In the event that the Awards presentation is televised, the Festival agrees to advise the owner of a nominated program of such use in the event that more than two minutes of material is to be used. Otherwise, the owner hereby grants the right to use a clip in this specific context. If there are any restrictions on such use, the owner must advise us no later than May 15, 2005 and undertakes to use best efforts in collaboration with us to secure suitable clearance.

The jury may also make one or more Special Awards for outstanding achievements deemed worthy of special recognition. Award-nominated programs and other programs selected for special mention will receive appropriate certificates suitable for framing. The international jury will decide category prizes and all other awards.

Festival Screenings

To meet the requirements of delegates and to facilitate business transactions, the Festival will make available videotape viewing facilities for "on demand" screenings. The Foundation also reserves the right to use portions of entries submitted with the express agreement that use of same would be exclusively for Festival promotion and that not more than two minutes of any program will be used for such purposes. Unless expressly prohibited the Festival reserves the right to make copies of winning entries for archival use only, with no commercial exploitation whatsoever. Unless expressly prohibited, the Festival may copy any program entry for use in non-commercial, promotional exhibitions highlighting the best of the Festival.
