Rockie Awards Highlights

ENTRY DEADLINE HAS NOW PAST. Nominees will be announced mid-April.

The campaign for entries for the 26th Banff World Television Festival international program competition is now over. The following summary is a preview of this year's regulations.

The BANFF competition is for recently telecast (2004, 2005) films and programs AND recently completed films and programs primarily intended for television. Telecast includes local or network telecast, cable, pay, satellite, etc., as well as webcasting. Original webcasts will be accepted within the current system of entry categories. Productions that had wide theatrical release prior to being telecast are NOT eligible. The entry deadline was February 24, 2005.


Prizes

The international program competition, The Banff Rockie Awards, includes 17 program categories covering many television genres. A Banff Rockie will be awarded to the best programs in each of the 17 categories. The program categories are listed and defined below. A major cash prize of $50,000 will be awarded to the recipient of The Global Television Grand Prize. The NHK President's Prize and $25,000 will be awarded to the best program produced or post produced in HD.

Also new this year will be a Rockie Award for the Best Canadian Program. Canadian finalists will be screened by an independent jury of Canadian television professionals with the winner being announced at the 26th Banff Rockie Awards ceremony on Wednesday, June 15, 2005. This initiative is sponsored by Playback.

Technical Formats

Acceptable formats:
DVD, all zones, VHS PAL, VHS NTSC - No other formats will be accepted.

If a program is nominated, BETA SP or DVD replacement copies for VHS will be requested.
